IZTECH Department Of Chemical Engineering

İzmir Institute of Technology Chemical Engineering Department was established in 1996. The Department had carried out its functions with limited means in temporary buildings until 2005 when it moved to its current location. At present, the Department is located in a modern building with 10.000 m² closed area which is situated on a beautiful location on the coast of the Aegean Sea. The building is equipped with modern classrooms, research laboratories and infrastructure and provides an excellent environment for students and researchers.      

       Chemical Engineering Department gives degrees at B.Sc., MSc and PhD levels. The undergratuate and MSc programs which started in 1998 were followed by the PhD program in 2001. The priority of the department is to create an inviting research and education environment for its studenst and faculty. The student/faculty ratio  is intentionally held at a minimum to provide each student with an excellent education while allowing the department to monitor the progress of the students individually. The language of teaching in is in English as for all programs in IYTE. Undergraduate curriculum is based on courses in Basic Sciences and in various Engineering Disciplines related to the goals of the program. During their education, students can take elective courses in four  interdiciplinary areas, namely biotechnology, energy,  environment and material sciences.  

        The Department hosts 17 full time faculty members with PhDs from the most prestigious universities in the world. The faculty members are considered experts in their selected fields which include: advanced materials, biochemistry andbioprocess engineering, biotechnology, catalysts, process  control, separation and purification, surface treatments, energy (conventional and renewable) and environment. Such profile creates extensive research opportunities to students at graduate level. The Department of Chemical Engineering is able to pursue the latest scientific developments and is ready to contribute to the new areas of research. 

         The Masters and PhD programs in Chemical Engineering Program receive a special attention since graduate work constitutes the foundation of IYTE. While the faculty members are encouraged to focus on understanding the basic physical, chemical and biological principles in their related research fields, they carry on research in order to advance existing technologies and to contribute to the development of new engineering fields.  The Department works hand-in-hand with other departments since interdisciplinary work is considered premium in İzmir Yüksek Teknoloji Enstitüsü and supported with inerdiscipliner programs. With such goals and means, İYTE Chemical Engineering Department is on the road to become one of the leading programs in Turkey.
